No meeting on the 4th

Happy 4th of July, There will be no meeting this week. We will resume with our third Thursday meeting. We will have the Director of Kern County Parks and Recreation for our speaker.

Want to get involved?

There is an Open Forum period at both monthly meetings on the first and third Thursdays of every month, 7:00 p.m. at Hummel Hall.

2500 20th St. West
Rosamond, Ca 93560

If a member of the public would like to make a comment or raise an issue for the Council to consider, they can now do that.

If a person wants to ask questions of representatives from our County Supervisor's office, the Rosamond Sheriff's office, the Rosamond Community Service District, the Southern Kern Unified School District, the Chamber of Commerce, the California Highway Patrol, or the Edwards Community Alliance, then this is the meeting to attend.

If local community service organizations want to get the word out on what they’re doing, this is the time and place.

Can Rosamond become a city?

ROSAMOND – This question and what steps are required to make it happen were discussed at the Feb. 15th Rosamond Municipal Advisory Council Town Hall meeting.

Bill Turpin, executive officer with the Kern County Local Agency formation Commission (LAFCO), discussed with about 60 members of the community what it would take for a community to become an incorporated city. Mr. Turpin said incorporation would only be feasible if a community could afford to provide for basic services - those services now paid for by the county - such things as fire, police, roads, planning, etc.

He said that a community would have to generate sufficient tax revenue to pay for such services. Rosamond's retail sales are the primary source of income presently and account for about $1.5 million. "You need $2 million to stand a chance".

Identity Theft

Supervisor Assistant Welling shared this at the Open Forum meeting on Thursday night, August 17th.
Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.
